Gather alternatives
The best Gather alternatives in 2026.
Gather (formerly Gather Town) ended its free plan in September 2025 and now charges for every member. Here are seven alternatives, compared on what a real team pays, what's free, and what each one is best at. We make TinyFloor, so it's listed first; everything else comes from each product's own pages.

Why teams look for a Gather alternative
Gather made the virtual office popular, and for years a small team could use it for free. On September 15, 2025 that ended: Gather moved to $15 a member a month, or $12 billed yearly, and closed free offices that didn't upgrade. Teams that had locked in the old yearly price of $5.95 kept it until September 2026, so many of them are meeting the new price at this year's renewal.
Price isn't the only reason. Gather 2.0 is a new platform, and moving to it means building your office again. And many teams find they use a fraction of what they pay for: they want to see who's around, talk without scheduling, and meet. That's what the alternatives below are judged on.
The alternatives, reviewed
- 1.
TinyFloor
$29 a month for the whole team, free for up to 3
A pixel-art office that opens in a browser tab, on a laptop or a phone. You see who's at their desk, walk up to talk, and step into the meeting room for video and screen sharing; there's team chat and a desk of your own. One price covers everyone you invite. It has no office editor, recordings, transcription or single sign-on, so teams that rely on those should look at Gather or Kumospace.
- 2.
SoWork
Basic $5.40 a member a month billed yearly; free for up to 10
The cheapest per-person plan here, and the most generous free plan for a team: up to 10 members, with meetings capped at 30 minutes. It's priced per member, so the bill grows with the team. Full comparison.
- 3.
Kumospace
Business from $16 a user a month; free for up to 5 members
A polished virtual office with desktop and mobile apps as well as the browser. Its free plan fits 5 members, 50 guests and one floor. For a team of 8 it's the most expensive option on this list after Gather's monthly plan. Full comparison.
- 4.
WorkAdventure
Business from $9 a user a month; free for up to 10 at once
Another pixel-art office, and open source, so a technical team can customise the map. Its free plan counts people online at the same time, up to 10, rather than members. Full comparison.
- 5.
Teamflow
$15 a person a month billed yearly; free for up to 5
A virtual office that runs as a desktop app for Mac and Windows, with mobile in beta. The free plan fits 5 people with 45-minute meetings. Billed yearly, it costs more per person than Gather's $12. Full comparison.
- 6.
Roam
A monthly price per active member; 14-day trial
A virtual office bundled with AI tools, in a desktop app you download. It charges only for members who are active, and has no free plan. Full comparison.
- 7.
Discord
Free
Not a virtual office, but many small teams already use its voice channels as one: drop in, talk, leave. It's free and the audio is good. It was built for gaming communities, so there's no office to see who's around, and work lives next to everything else on it. Full comparison.
How to choose
- Count the people who'll really use it. Free plans stop at 3 to 10 people, and most paid plans charge each person. For a team of 4 to 15, a flat price or a free plan that fits often beats a price per head.
- Browser or app. Browser-only products need nothing installed and work for guests and contractors straight away. Desktop apps can do more, but everyone has to install them.
- List your must-haves first. If you need recordings, transcripts, an office you design yourself or single sign-on, that narrows the list to Gather, Kumospace and a few others, whatever the price.
- Try it on a normal working day. These tools prove themselves in the small moments: a quick question, a meeting that starts on time. A week of real work tells you more than a demo.
How we compared
Prices, free plans and limits come from each product's own pricing and help pages, read in October 2026, in US dollars or euros as each lists them, before tax. Where a product's page didn't say something, we left it out rather than guess. We make TinyFloor, so we put it first and said plainly what it doesn't do. Prices change: check the vendor's page before you buy.

For a team of up to 10, SoWork's free plan fits the most people, with meetings capped at 30 minutes; WorkAdventure's fits 10 people online at once. TinyFloor is free for up to 3 with every feature included, and $29 a month for the whole team after that.
What is the cheapest Gather alternative for a team of 10?
TinyFloor, at $29 a month for the whole team. SoWork's Basic plan is $54 a month billed yearly for 10 members, and Gather is $120 billed yearly.
Is there a Gather alternative that runs in the browser?
Yes. TinyFloor, Kumospace and WorkAdventure run in the browser; Teamflow and Roam are desktop apps.
Does Gather still have a free plan?
No. Gather ended its free plan on September 15, 2025. It costs $15 a member a month, or $12 billed yearly, after a 30-day trial.
Can I move my Gather office to another tool?
TinyFloor can't import a Gather map: you start with a ready-made office and invite everyone with one link, which takes minutes. Check with any other tool before you plan a move.
Is TinyFloor like Gather?
Yes, in the way that matters day to day: a pixel-art office where you walk up to someone to talk and step into a room to meet. It doesn't let you design the office, and it has no recordings or transcripts.
